What are the side effects, if any?

Use of the NeuroProgrammer has many positive side effects that may or may not be directly related to your goals. You may see more emotional stability, better blood circulation, quicker thinking, heightened awareness, increased energy, and much more. Many people even report a reduced need for sleep.

The only negative side effects that have been reported are occasional temporary negative mood change and for certain Brainwave Training sessions mild headaches have been reported, but only for the first few uses. Headaches usually occur as a result of increased blood flow in the brain, which is a good thing. After you get used to this, it will go away. Most NP users take it as a sign that the session is doing its job: giving you a "mental workout".

Are AudioStrobe Goggles included? Are AudioStrobe Goggles required?

AudioStrobe goggles and the decoder are not included in the software package. However, the NeuroProgrammer is compatible with all AudioStrobe devices and most Mind Machines. You can also add a set of goggles to your order if you like. The Goggles are not required. In fact, NP2 comes with a "Screen Flashing" equivalent. However, Goggles are much more effective than screen flashing and may be particularly useful for cognitive enhancement and ADD.

If you are epileptic or prone to seizures you should NOT purchase or use AudioStrobe goggles.

Is there a MAC version available?

Not at the moment. We plan on making one in the future, but cannot say when that will be at this point. We are working on making NP2 more compatible with Virtual PC, however.

What is the difference between the Home and Professional versions of NP2?

The primary difference between the Professional and Home version is that you can create Audio/Visual Sessions in the Professional version. Creating sessions is both useful and fun, since you can customize every aspect to yourself and the people around you.

How does your product compare to others?

We are often asked to compare our product to others. Although we cannot speak specifically about any particular product here, we can say that our product is the most up to date and well researched self-help and brainwave entrainment product on the market today. No other product, to our knowledge, compares (and we have tested nearly all competitive products).

There are a few major differences between us and other companies:

1) We are reasonably priced - Do not be fooled by expensive products claiming that the benefits or "experience" will be worth paying hugely expensive prices. Is there a way to use this away from the computer?

Can I mix my own music with NP2?

Yes, you can customize any session and specify any sound file you wish to use as a background. This can be done in either the Professional or Home versions at the click of a button.

And one of the great and unique features of NP2 is the way it modifies the background sound to entrain the brain. This means that if you prefer to use the background sound alone, you can. No tones or other sounds necessary!

Can I make Hypnosis Scripts with NP2? How about Dual Induction scripts?

What is a "Session"?

A Session is an Audio / Visual experience, often consisting of relaxing sounds and, optionally, visual effects coming from the screen or connected to LED Light Goggles.

Sessions are the foundation on which the NeuroProgrammer is built. The audio/visual experience is structured to affect the brain in very specific ways, through a complex neurological process called Brainwave Entrainment (click here for more details). Brainwave entrainment has over 70 years of research behind it. During this time, a variety of brainwave patterns have been associated with specific mental states, disorders and even bodily functions. As a result, sessions can serve a huge variety of purposes, from Relaxation, Hypnosis and Meditation all the way up to enhancing cognition and helping with mood disorders.

There are over 125 top quality sessions built into NP2, and even more in the user library. Additionally, you can create your own sessions or customize the sessions already available (such as changing the pitch, background sound or colors of the visuals).

Can I create my own Audio/Visual Sessions? And if so, what are the features of it?

If you have the Professional version you have access to the most powerful and comprehensive Audio/Visual Session builder yet developed. You can generate noise, tones, use background sounds, control AudioStrobe signals and much more. Unlike other programs, NP2 allows an unlimited number of voices and layers, and each layer has virtually unlimited potential. For example a Tone voice can be used to generate Isochronic tones, binaural beats, or monaural beats, but more than that you can control the phasing, depth of the wave, wave form and much more. The session editor is also very easy to use, nearly plug and play!

Even if you have the Home edition, you can still easily customize any session to your liking. For example, you can change the pitch of the tones, add a background, turn the various session components (Noise, Background sound, Tones, etc) on and off, control the AudioStrobe brightness, add scripts, affirmations and much more. Everything is customizable, and it is very easy to use.

Can I make Subliminal Messages or "Silent Sounds" with your product?

There are no limitations to what you can do with NP2, but for the purpose of truth and saving our customers time and money, we have to say that Subliminal Messages do not work. In fact, they are closer to a myth.

Before making NP, we did extensive research into the subject of subliminal perception and in fact performed many of our own tests on Silent Sound and Subliminal Messaging products. If, during our research, we had found even the slightest trace of effectiveness, we would have implemented them into NP. Dozens of very professional yet open minded studies have been conducted on subliminal perception, and all of them have come to the same conclusion: there is no such thing as subliminal perception, and even if there were, it wouldn't have any affect on behavior. Researchers found no trace of significant brain response to any subliminal messages or silent sounds, especially not in any language centers of the brain. This means that if subliminal messages are perceived, it isn't by the brain.

The NP documentation includes a section called "The Myth of Subliminal Messages," which explains them in more detail. Here is an excerpt:

"It all seems to have started with a 1957 marketing agent named James Vicary, who claimed to have increased popcorn sales by 58% and Coke sales by 18% in a New Jersey movie theater by flashing the messages "Drink Coca-Cola" and "Hungry - Eat Popcorn." Although it was later admitted by Vicary to be a fabricated study, this hoax is to this day still mentioned as proof of the effectiveness of subliminal messages. You can find it mentioned in subliminal message products all over the world, including numerous computer applications, even though nobody has ever reproduced the results claimed by Mr. Vicary.

The belief in subliminal messages probably reached its peak in 1974 when the FCC banned subliminal messages from advertising, probably more as a response to public paranoia than anything else. One survey showed that 68% of the public believed in subliminal messages.

The January 1991 issue of the University of California, Berkeley, noted that double blind tests have consistently shown that subliminal tapes fail to produce their claimed effects. There is also no evidence that subliminal messages actually affect behavior. In a separate study, Timothy E. Moore showed that subliminal tapes didn't even meet the minimal criteria for perception. He concluded that it is highly unlikely that they have any effect at all, much less a significant effect on behavior or thought patterns. [Glendon College, York University. Aren't the Suggestions and "Affirmations" used in NP2 the same thing as Subliminal Messages?

No. By definition, subliminal refers to that which is below perception. "Sub" meaning below and "Liminal" meaning the threshold for sensory perception. Because the recordings used in NP2 are loud enough to be heard, they are not subliminal. Despite popular misconception, affirmations MUST be heard in order to have an impact on the brain. What matters is the state you are in when you hear the suggestions. If you are in a very relaxed, hypnotic state, suggestions can have a huge impact on your behavior.

Can I use my Mind Machine device with NP2?

Yes, if your device is Audiostrobe-compatible (most of them are).

You don't need any special equipment to use the device with NP2, simply plug the device into the computer speaker or headphone port in the same way the speakers are plugged in now.

Can I sell CDs made with NP2?

Yes, if you have a Commercial License. Otherwise, NP2 can only be used for personal purposes.

All versions of NP2 allow you to export any session, hypnotic script, recording or mix you make, which can then be burnt to a CD. If you have a personal (non-commercial) license, you can use the output of NP2 for your own personal use, in any way you see fit. If you have the commercial license, you can use NP2 to sell CDs or in a professional setting.

Can I use NP2 with my customers?

Do I need an internet connection to use NP2?

A connection is recommended but is not required. No additional downloads are needed once you have the program installed. In some cases product activation is required, but as long as you have access to an internet connection somewhere you will be able to activate or register without a problem.

Are other languages supported?

Is there a manual included with NP2?

Yes, an extensive, e-book style manual is included in NP2. It is easy to read yet intensely interesting and informative. More than a few users have said that the documentation alone is worth the price of NP2.

A User Guide is included, complete with detailed screenshots and instructions. More importantly, all of the concepts behind NP2 are explained in detail, and much of our research and test results are also included.

How can NP2 help with Sleep? Are there any Sleep Induction sessions that do not require headphones?

There are many ways NP2 can help you sleep. For one, a huge number of sessions included are meant to produce deep relaxation. Additionally, many sessions are meant specifically for what is called "Sleep Induction", or a session meant to guide you down to a deep, healthy sleep. A unique feature of NP2 is that most of its sessions can be used without headphones, so you can simply export the session to CD and play it from your bedroom stereo. Can NP2 Professional do everything NNS and BSS can do?

For the most part, yes. But if your primary interest is Noise generation (for NNS) or music/sound filtering (BSS), you should consider trying those applications since they have greater flexibility for their purposes. For example, with BSS every sound filter can be assigned a specific track, and in NNS you have access to Ocean Wave generation features.

But if you are interested in general session creation and self-programming, NP2 Professional is definitely the tool for you.

Can I make Binaural Beats with this program?

Yes, NP2 includes some binaural beat sessions and if you have NP2 Professional you can create your own. In fact, using the session editor in NP2 you can create an unlimited number of voices.

However, binaural beats are not the only way to stimulate brainwaves, and we have actually found that other methods tend to be more effective and more flexible, such as Isochronic tones and filtered noise or background sounds. By default, most of the sessions in NP2 use the entrainment methods that resulted in the greatest neural response during EEG tests.

How can your program work without headphones?

There is a common misconception that Binaural Beats, which require headphones, are the only form of entrainment, so we are often asked "How can NP produce binaural beats without headphones?". The answer is that we are not producing binaural beats, we are producing brainwave entrainment, which can be induced using ANY repeating stimulus. What makes binaural beats a form of entrainment is that they produce "Beats", or pulses of sound which leave individual electrical imprints on the brain. But obviously beats can be produced in ways other than using binaural tones. A drum, for example, could be used to induce brainwave entrainment, if the drummer could keep a very precise frequency for longer than 6 minutes (many ancient and even modern day cultures use drums to induce meditative states, though they may not know the science behind what they are doing).

If the method of entrainment does not rely on speaker assignments, it can be used effectively without headphones.

How can you present a stimulus below 20 Hz since that is below the limit of human hearing?

There is often a confusion in regards to the definition of Hertz, or cycles per second. When we refer to Hertz (Hz) we are referring to pulses per second, as opposed to the pitch. The pitch of the stimulus can be anything within the range of human hearing (20-20,000 Hz), but the frequency of sound bursts per second is usually below 20, since the most important brainwaves range from 0 - 20 Hz. It is the pulse, not the pitch, that leaves the electrical imprint on the brain. If the pitch of the stimulus is below that of human hearing, no entrainment will occur in most cases.

The confusion here is often because of the marketing of other companies, who claim that binaural beats produce a "third sound" that can be below 20 Hz. This is not true. What occurs is a "beat" or pulse, which consists of the combination of the 2 tones. The same effect can be replicated using Monaural beats, drums, flashes of light or any form of repeating pulse. It is the beat that matters, not the pitch.

Picture a metronome set at 5 clicks per second. It could be said that the metronome is clicking at 5 Hertz (Hz). You can hear the metronome clicking 5 times a second, because the pitch of the clicks are well within the hearing range. A 5 Hz wave, or pitch, on the other hand, could not be heard.

Do entrainment methods other than Binaural Beats result in Hemispheric Synchronization?

Hemispheric Synchronization is a byproduct of nearly all types of brainwave entrainment.

In 1980, Tsuyoshi Inouye and associates at the Department of Neuropsychiatry at Osaka University Medical School in Japan found that photic stimulation in the alpha range produced hemispheric synchronization. Dr. Norman Shealy later confirmed the effect, finding that photic stimulation produced "cerebral synchronization" in more than 5,000 patients. In 1984, Dr. Brockopp analyzed audio-visual brain stimulation and in particular hemispheric synchronization during EEG monitoring. He said "By inducing hemispheric coherence the machine can contribute to improved intellectual functioning of the brain."

There is similar evidence that CES (electrical stimulation), motion systems, acoustic field generators and even floatation tanks can increase EEG symmetry.

The NeuroProgrammer takes hemispheric coherence a step further by delivering different stimulation to each ear in certain sessions in order to correct common hemispheric asymmetries. For example, depressed individuals tend to have an overactive right (emotional) brain hemisphere, so the depression reduction session acts to decrease right brain activity while increasing left, the end result being a more coherent, healthy and well balanced brainwave pattern.
