FAQ
> Where can I get more information?
There are 4 major sources for information:
1) The Members Area - Best place to get any information.
Many more tips/tricks on creating transforms, tutorials,
EEG results, up to date research, special
support and
more.
Must
purchase NNS to obtain access to this area.
2) The Overview
2) The NNS documentation. Download the
trial.
3) You can contact one
of our staff who would be pleased to answer any questions.
4) The Forums |
> Is it safe?
Yes it is very safe, but only for those not mentioned
below:

> Who should not use NNS?
NOTE: Since
NNS is "headphone-less", the user of NNS
should be extra careful to check with anyone who might
be in hearing distance of the audio output. When in doubt,
use headphones.
Those meeting any of the following conditions, whether
knowingly or not, should not use this application:
· Epileptics
· Pregnant women
· Those who are wearing a pacemaker
· Those prone to seizures
· Those who are photosensitive
Those who should consult a physician before the use
of this product include:
· Individuals under the influence
of medication or drugs.
This application is not to be used while under the
influence of alcohol or other mood altering substances,
whether they are legal or illegal.
Children under the age of 18 are to be examined by
a physician for epilepsy or illnesses that may contribute
to seizures prior to the use of NNS audio,
as they are more susceptible to seizures.
Finally, DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY NNS AUDIO
WHILE DRIVING OR OPERATING MACHINERY, AS IT COULD
BE DANGEROUS.

> How can you present a stimulus
below 20 Hz since that is below the limit of human hearing?
There is often a confusion in regards
to the definition of Hertz, or cycles per second. When
we refer to Hertz (Hz) we are referring to pulses per
second, as opposed to the pitch. The pitch of the stimulus
can be anything within the range of human hearing (20-20,000
Hz), but the frequency of sound bursts per second is
usually below 20, since the most important brainwaves
range from 0 - 20 Hz. It is the pulse, not the pitch,
that leaves the electrical imprint on the brain. If
the pitch of the stimulus is below that of human hearing,
no entrainment will occur in most cases.
The confusion here is often because
of the marketing of other companies, who claim that
binaural beats produce a "third sound" that
can be below 20 Hz. This is not true. What occurs
is a "beat" or pulse, which consists of
the combination of the 2 tones. The same effect can
be replicated using Monaural beats or any form of
pulse. It is the beat that matters, not the pitch.
Picture a metronome set at 5 clicks
per second. It could be said that the metronome is
clicking at 5 Hertz (Hz). You can hear the metronome
clicking 5 times a second, because the pitch of the
clicks are well within the hearing range. A 5 Hz
wave, or pitch, on the other hand, could not be heard. |
> How can it be used without headphones?
Unfortunately, there is a common misconception
that Binaural Beats, which require headphones, are
the only form of entrainment, so we are often asked "How
can your products produce binaural beats without headphones?".
The answer is that we are not producing binaural beats,
we are producing brainwave entrainment, which can be
induced using ANY repeating stimulus. What makes binaural
beats a form of entrainment is that they produce "Beats",
or pulses of sound which leave individual electrical
imprints on the brain. But obviously beats can be produced
in ways other than using binaural tones. A drum, for
example, could be used to induce brainwave entrainment,
if the drummer could keep a very precise frequency
for longer than 6 minutes (many ancient and even modern
day cultures use drums to induce meditative states,
though they may not know the science behind what they
are doing).
If the method of entrainment does not
rely on speaker assignments, it can be used effectively
without headphones.

> How can I burn NNS audio to CD?
Any noise that NNS generates can be
exported as a stereo WAV file. The export options are
available by clicking the "Export" button
on the lower right corner of the main screen. Just select
the Brainwave-Noise
Transform you wish to use, and hit "Export".
Once you have exported the WAV file, it can be burnt
to audio CD using any CD burning software.

> Does MP3 compression decrease
the effectiveness of NNS audio?
Not in most cases. MP3 compression and fiddling with
the sampling rate can cause some higher frequencies to
be deleted, which can affect certain NNS functions such
as low-pass filter modulation. Also, if you compress
NNS audio to mono mp3, Auto-Pan Modulation
will become ineffective.
To be sure that no effectiveness is lost during mp3
compression, stick with 56kbps+ and stereo. 128kbps is
recommended.
44100 sampling rate is also recommended. |
> What is a Hardware ID? Where can
I find mine?
A Hardware ID is needed in order to
generate a valid license for you. There are 2 ways
to get
your Hardware ID.
1) Click
the Help Menu on the main screen. Off of the help
menu you will see "Registration". Click
it.

After clicking "Registration" the
Registration Screen will pop up.

The location of your Hardware ID is
circled by red in this screenshot.
2) When
you first open the program a prompt appears that
looks like this. When it comes up, click "Enter
Key"

After clicking "Enter Key" another
screen will pop up:

The location of your Hardware ID is
circled in red on this screenshot.

> I have purchased NNS, how do I
get a license?
If a license was not automatically
generated for you, it means we could not find your
Hardware ID, which is usually contained in a cookie
if you accessed the site from the NNS trial version
at any time (usually by clicking the Buy Now button).
To register NNS is very simple. Follow
these steps:
1) If you have not already
done so, please download and install the Neural Noise
Synthesizer application. A link to a non-trial version
of NNS should have been included in the receipt you
received from us. If it didn't you can download the
trial here: http://www.transparentcorp.com/downloads/NeuralNoiseSynthesizer.exe
2) When Neural Noise
Synthesizer first opens, a license screen will pop
up. Click on the third button, which
will be "Register Online" or "Buy
Now / Get License". If you are using the non-trial
version it will open a web browser directly to the
registration form (step 4). If you are using the trial
version it will open to the buy page (step
3).

3) If you are using
the non-trial version, skip to Step
4. If you are
using the trial version, clicking
"Buy Now / Get License" will open to the
buy page. Click the "Already
Registered"
link.

4) Type
in your full name and email and your license will be
sent to you immediately. The Hardware ID field should
be pre-filled with the correct value (like in the
screenshot below). If it isn't, click "more info" for
more information.

Above is a screenshot of the Registration
Form. Once you get to this point, all you have
to do is type in your information and your license
is automatically emailed to you!
