Can I install Mind Stereo on more than one computer?

Yes! We have an automated system for acquiring new licenses. You do not have to pay again to install it on another computer.

After purchase, check your email receipt for registration instructions. If you have the CD version, follow the activation instructions.

Is it safe? Who should not use Mind Stereo?

Yes it is very safe, but only for those not mentioned below:

Is there a MAC version available?

Not at the moment. We are working on making all of our products more compatible with Virtual PC, wine and other emulators.

Do I need an internet connection?

A connection is recommended but is not required. No additional downloads are needed once you have the program installed. In some cases product activation is required, but as long as you have access to an internet connection somewhere you will be able to activate or register without a problem.

Of course you will need an internet connection if you want to use net radio features, or download additional visual plugins.

Are headphones required?

No, Mind Stereo does not require headphones or special speaker arrangements.

How is this possible?

There is a common misconception that Binaural Beats, which require headphones, are the only form of entrainment, so we are often asked "How can you produce binaural beats without headphones?". The answer is that we are not producing binaural beats, we are producing brainwave entrainment, which can be induced using ANY repeating stimulus. What makes binaural beats a form of entrainment is that they produce "Beats", or pulses of sound which leave individual electrical imprints on the brain. But obviously beats can be produced in ways other than using binaural tones. A drum, for example, could be used to induce brainwave entrainment, if the drummer could keep a very precise frequency for longer than 6 minutes (many ancient and even modern day cultures use drums to induce meditative states, though they may not know the science behind what they are doing).

If the method of entrainment does not rely on speaker assignments, it can be used effectively without headphones.

Can I export to WAV or CD using Mind Stereo?

No. Mind Stereo can play Net Radio, CDs, DRM formats such as WMA, Napster-To-Go and other copy-protected formats. To remain within U.S. legal boundaries, we unfortunately could not implement the ability to export. Mind Stereo is meant to be a computer based media center. It is built to play sound, not export it.

Our other software applications, such as Neuro-Programmer and Brain Sound Studio are fully capable of exporting - although those applications do not support DRM or Net Radio.

What is a "Session"?

A Session is an Audio / Visual protocol used to specify the target brainwave frequencies across a timeline. Chart objects with points are used to edit and represent a session's content. Brainwaves are represented vertically while time is horizontal, starting at 0.

An audio/visual session is structured to affect the brain in very specific ways, through a complex neurological process called Brainwave Entrainment (click here for more details). Can I create my own Audio/Visual Sessions?

Can I use my Mind Machine device with Mind Stereo?

Yes, if your device is Audiostrobe-compatible (most of them are).

You don't need any special equipment to use the device with MS, simply plug the device into the computer speaker or headphone port in the same way the speakers are plugged in now.

Should I close my eyes using visual plugins?

Closing your eyes is not required when using visual plugins. The visual plugin feature of Mind Stereo is meant to be easy on the eyes, unlike screen flashing, strobe lights and LED glasses where closing the eyes is required. Most people will find the visual plugins profoundly relaxing even with their eyes open. We recommend that if you start to feel tired then let your eyes close naturally - the audio entrainment will then take you into a deeper state.

Are the light flashes in the visual plugins synchronized with the audio?

Yes, we developed a new technique for Mind Stereo. The visual plugin flashing is processed in a similar way to AudioStrobe signals, ensuring that a pulse of sound is precisely synchronized with the light. Even if your computer "skips" and misses a flash it will not desynchronize, because the light directly corresponds to the audio pulses.

You have the option of manually desynchronizing if you choose, but by default all sessions have synchronized light and sound.

How do I install visual plugins?

In the downloads section, there is a Visualization Pack that automates installing a number of popular visual plugins for you. You can access it on this page: Downloads

Installing a visual plugin manually is easy. Assuming you have downloaded the plugin, simply extract its contents into a folder in the Visualizations directory of your Mind Stereo installation. This will typically be: C:\Program Files\Mind Stereo\visualizations

After you have done that, the visualization will show up on the Change Visualization menu (right click the visualization screen).

Where can I find more visual plugins

In the downloads section, there is a Visualization Pack that automates installing a number of popular visual plugins for you. You can access it on this page: Downloads

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS: The plugin installations for the above site are in EXE form and are meant to be used with the XMPlay application, which is another media player. To install a plugin, download its EXE file and run it. It will ask you for a destination folder. Specify your desktop or some other easy to remember location. After it extracts the files, go to the location you specified. You will see a Vis folder. Open the Vis folder and you should see another folder with the name of the visualization. Copy that folder into your C:\Program Files\Mind Stereo\visualizations folder and you are all done.

Is Net Radio free?

Yes, most radio stations are free. There are some sites that require registration (such as Live365.com), but you can acquire a URL to use in Mind Stereo after logging in.

What kind of music or net radio should I use with Mind Stereo?

You can use any type of music that suits your purposes. For relaxation, you may want to choose relaxing ambient, celtic or classical music. For energy, a techno or rock tune may be better.

What effect does Mind Stereo have on the music?

Mind Stereo stimulates the brain by filtering and modulating the songs in your playlist. In most cases, you will not be able to tell much of a difference between modulated and unmodulated music. However, some songs do adapt better to this process than others. For example: ambient music can support very high intensity entrainment and still sound quite pleasant and normal, while the sounds of ringing bells or an ocean surf may sound choppy at those same intensities.

To solve this problem, Mind Stereo provides and easy to use "entrainment equalizer", where you can adjust the entrainment intensities as the session is playing. It is recommended to make adjustments until you find a setting that is both enjoyable and effective for you.

I am a student, how can Mind Stereo help me?
