With Transparent software, yet another use can be included in this growing list- now EEG units can be tools to improve the mind through a non-invasive brain stimulation process. Neural stimulation therapy, also commonly referred to as brainwave entrainment, uses deliberately engineered sound or light stimuli to influence the mind in beneficial ways. EEG-Compatible Software
Mind WorkStation (MWS) can work with a variety of EEG and biofeedback devices, including the Emotiv EPOC, Emotiv EEG and NeuroSky as detailed below. MWS can be used for EEG-driven stimulation, biofeedback gaming, and unique combinations of biofeedback and neural stimulation that provide a user experience and level of effectiveness unequaled by either method alone.
Neuro-Programmer 3 (NP3) is capable of using EEG devices to enhance brainwave entrainment. Simply hook up an EEG unit and enable Bio-Optimization in NP3. While using NP3 it will record your neurological response from the EEG and optimize the stimulation based on your profile. In other words, it will create a session uniquely tailored to you and significantly more effective.

EEG-Driven Stimulation / Neurofeedback

EEG devices can be used as a guide for brain stimulation, enhancing the therapy by "driving" the brain towards certain states using brain analysis as a roadmap. During EEG-driven stimulation, incoming data from EEG sensors is used by our software to observe the impact of the therapy as it is taking place. The software can then automatically modify and optimize the stimulation based on information coming directly from the brain and body, allowing the therapy to adapt to the wide variety of physiological and psychological differences from person to person. The modular design of Mind WorkStation makes it easier than ever to accomplish this, as shown in this diagram:


Mind WorkStation can connect to most commercial EEG units. It can do this directly through devices such as the NeuroSky, Emotiv EPOC, Emotiv EEG, or through software such as BioExplorer, BioEra and BioGraph.

As with biofeedback, Mind WorkStation can also be used as an advanced feedback mechanism for neurofeedback by affecting on-screen visualizations or the audio. It can also be used with the program's advanced 3D graphing system.

The Emotiv EPOC is a research grade, high resolution, neuro-signal acquisition and processing wireless neuroheadset. It uses a set of sensors to tune into electric signals produced by the brain to detect player thoughts, feelings and expressions and connects wirelessly to most PCs. Its 14 saline sensors offer optimal positioning and accuracy.

Glossary
Biofeedback

Biofeeedback is a learning method based on your own body and the signals it sends to you. By "reading" your own body and mastering its messages and what it needs to improve its performance, you can become more self-aware of your moment to moment state and your options to change that state. Biofeedback is non-invasive, and can translate your body's distinctive signals into a variety of forms - sound, visual and sensory.

Brainwave Entrainment Brainwaves represent electrical activity in the brain, and brainwave entrainment is a method of stimulating this activity using patterns of sound or light.
Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback is biofeedback focused on signals and measurements of the brain. EEG biofeedback is training to increase flexibility and resilience of brain states based on electrical brainwave patterns available at the scalp.

Electrodes

Electrodes are small, sensitive metal conductors placed on the scalp. They are capable of picking up very faint electrical signals.
