After several months in the field, someone has just reported a rather serious bug - the validity checking in all the Duration fields prevented any value less than 6 seconds. This is now corrected, and along with a couple of other minors, is now out as V1.04 Beta.

As I have no plans of doing anything much further with this application, it will be remaining a permanent Beta, free of charge and no promises.

This version doesn't require installation. Just extract the EXE file from the ZIP file and put it wherever you want. Simply execute it by double-clicking. It has been tested on XP Home, XP Pro and Vista Home Premium. It REQUIRES XP SP3 or later, with .NET 3.5. To remove it, just delete it (no uninstall required - it doesn't change registry or hide anything anywhere).

Reasonable care has been taken, but no responsibility can be accepted for anything that may or may not happen.

There's no help or instructions, but it's pretty easy to get around.

From the Main form you can access Session Settings and Settings forms for each of the six tracks. Tones 1 and AS 1 are enabled by default (Tones 1 is always enabled - if you don't want to hear it, set its volume range to 0/0), others are optional. From each Track Settings form there is a Randomisation Settings button that allows you to set ranges for most NP2 parameters, as well as a general 'pattern' for the random session. The pattern is a trend that will be more or less obvious depending upon how the dice fall for that particular 'generation'. You can leave many settings forms open to see the big picture, but values may not update in the main or session forms until "Done" is pressed in other forms.

All times, including duration are in minutes (1 second is approx 0.015 min.). Frequencies are in Hertz. Smoothing is 1-9 with 1 providing no smoothing (completely random). Most other settings are 0-1000 (as in NP2 itself). All settings are validity checked and have default settings. If a setting is left blank it will either use the default or take the value from Tones 1 (depending on Pattern). The Load and Save Parameters buttons allow you to load and save all settings (not a particular random session). Each time Generate is pressed a unique session based on the current settings will be created.

There is an upper limit of 200 nodes per track - if this is reached as a result of a long session and/or short segments, the remainder of the session time will be at the last node's settings.

Feel free to email me with any comments. If you have problems, please try to be as specific as possible, including a Save Parameter file if possible.

Hope you enjoy!

Cheers,
Craig

Here's version 1.06.

It's got a few more silly niggles sorted out, and it has the node limit increased from 200 to 2000.

Cheers,
Craig
